Cornish Mountain Ski and Snowshoe Network

Cornish Mountain Ski and Snowshoe Network

The Wells and Area Trails Society manages a great, and extensive network for skiing and snowshoeing on groomed trails, and off-piste. In addition, there is very good hiking in the summer. Our trail network is also inside the Wells Barkerville Community Forest, so trail management is supported by the Community Forest board as well. As well, Cornish Mountain forest is managed for the recreational advantage of our community, instead of maximum timber value.

The Trails society has over 25 km of network that climbs right over the summit of the mountain or wanders flat over extensive marshlands.

We recently expanded with a new school-to-forest boardwalk, and are building new creekside trail close to town, and shelters on the more distant parts of the network.

Here is a KML trail file that can be viewed on Google Earth, or, better yet, downloaded onto a phone app. We recommend Gaia phone app as an excellent navigational tool. Note that the Cornish network is well signed with ‘You are here’ signage that mimics the image below, at all the intersections. You can also print off a pdf version of this image here.

The lower Cornish network is groomed and trackset up to 1st Lookout, generally. The upper network is groomed on an intermittent basis, so there is always good skiing or snowshoeing on a firm base at the very least. The Car Wash, the Horselogger, and the Hiker are not groomed and make excellent off-piste snowshoe trips, as does heading off anywhere into the forest, here, where you’ll always bump into a trail eventually.

Snowshoes should walk beside the groomed ski trail, and the entire area is off-leash, with the usual considerations regarding looking after your dog. Enjoy these trails, and the unique mountain town that adjoins them!
